Mitt’s Money

According to Pablo Torre of Sports Illustrated, “by the time they have been retired for two years, 78 percent of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress because of joblessness or divorce.” The problem isn’t just confined to professional football players. Torre’s article says that within five years of retirement, an estimated 60 percent of former NBA players are broke.

Why is it that the liberal media and Democrats don’t talk about these professional athletes blowing their money on wine, woman and song but they make Mitt Romney out to be the devil for his wealth? How much good comes to society from these guys flushing their money down the toilet? Mitt provides the government with a steady source of income. Every year they know they are going to get a check for $3,000,000. Perhaps it bothers them that he gives about the same amount to charity. Since they want the government to be the source of all things good; charities, especially religion, represent competition. It’s a sick thought but it may be true.

They need to realize that the rich are a flock of geese laying golden eggs. They provide a relatively predictable source of revenue.

“Well, Charlie, what I’ve said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness.” Barack Obama

Hatred

I’ve been a Mormon for over 40 years. I served an LDS mission to Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi. I affectionately refer to the area as the buckle of the Bible Belt. I grew up in Texas which is also part of the Bible Belt. At the earliest age I was exposed to anti-mormon literature. On my mission I consumed a steady diet from housewives and ministers. In all that time I never heard that Joseph Smith invented Mormonism to explain away an affair with a maid.

Lawrence O’Donnell has shown his hatred for Mormonism and Mormons on several occasions. His hatred has led him to accept as truth anything negative he reads about Mormons. It is deeply disturbing that the media is so silent on his hate filled commentaries. This isn’t just about O’Donnell’s hatred. It’s about the hatred of the liberal populace. While many do not hate Mormons and Mormonism, they hate conservatism. They hate it so badly that they are willing to turn a blind eye to the rantings of O’Donnell. Would they be as accepting of such talk about Islam?

Rush’s Immigration Laws

Our poor illegal aliens have it so rough. I think Rush has it dead on.

The following is excerpted from Rush’s transcript:

“All right, immigration proposals under discussion. Let me add mine to the mix. I want to call this proposal the Limbaugh Laws. …

First, if you immigrate to the United States of America, you must speak the native language.

You have to be a professional or an investor.

[America is] not going to take unskilled workers…

There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools, no special ballots for elections, no government business will be conducted in your native language.

Foreigners will not have the right to vote…nor will they ever be allowed to hold political office. According to the Limbaugh Laws, if you’re in our country, you cannot be a burden to taxpayers. You are not entitled, ever, to welfare, to food stamps, or other government goodies.

You can come if you invest here, but it must be an amount equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage. If you don’t know have that amount of money, you can’t come and invest. You have to stay home.

If you do come and you want to buy land, okay, but we’re going to restrict your options. You will not be allowed to buy waterfront property in the United States. That will be reserved for citizens naturally born in this country.

In fact, as a foreigner, you must relinquish individual rights to property… Another thing.

You don’t have the right to protest when you come here. You’re allowed no demonstrations, you cannot wave a foreign flag, no political organizing, no bad-mouthing our president or his policies, or you get sent home.

You’re a foreigner. You shut your mouth or you get out, and if you come here illegally, you go straight to jail and we’re going to hunt you down ’til we find you.

I can imagine many of you think that the Limbaugh Laws are pretty harsh. I imagine today some of you probably are going, “Yeah! Yeah!” Well, let me tell you this, folks. Every one of the laws I just mentioned are actual laws of Mexico, today. I just read you Mexican immigration law. That’s how the Mexican government handles immigrants to their country.”

Unions in China

“Increasing attention has been paid to the sharp increase in suicides this year at Foxconn’s Shenzhen factory which manufactures iPods, iPads, and iPhones. It also fills orders from a broad list of clientele including Dell, HP, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony.”

My guess is that the Chinese are going to take to Unions like a dog to a bone in the near future.

Haka, the Police did nothing wrong

The police don’t need culture training. I’ve seen the Haka dozens of times. If someone blocked my exit and did it in my face I would do the same. It’s equivalent to saying, “In my culture flipping people off and shouting obscenities at them is historic.”

In our culture you don’t stick your tongue out at officers. You don’t clinch your fists at officers. You don’t give them a look like you are going to crush their skull. You don’t block exits. When police tell you to move–YOU MOVE. These idiots are the one’s needing the culture training.

Documents show why officer says he used pepper spray on Haka dancers

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/52947896-78/police-officers-dance-group.html.csp#disqus_thread

Roosevelt Police Department documents detail an apparent cultural misunderstanding that led officers to deploy pepper spray and use a baton on spectators performing a Polynesian dance at a high school football game.

The documents, including witness and police affidavits, were released to The Salt Lake Tribune in response to an open records request after the Oct. 20 incident involving a group of spectators attempting to perform the Haka, a traditional war dance and chant, to honor Union High School football players after a heartbreaking loss to rival Uintah.

Police ultimately determined both sides were partially to blame as the situation could have been avoided had both officers and spectators made different decisions that night, records show.

Records state the two officers assigned to work security at the game, Luke Stradinger and Wade Butterfield, were already braced for trouble because in the past the rivalry had resulted in fights. Police and other witnesses reported hearing some spectators in the Polynesian group shouting obscenities at the departing referees, displaying poor sportsmanship or making inappropriate comments toward Uintah High School cheerleaders trying to leave the stadium after the game, records show.

School officials were concerned enough about the atmosphere that they opted to keep football players on the field until some of the crowd cleared out, witness statements show. Police had already cleared the exit once and ordered people off the field when a group of Tongan dancers and supporters appeared, suddenly blocking the only exit, one witness affidavit shows. Police said a video recording at one point captures one dancer expressing concern that they might get in trouble with police. Then a woman encourages everyone to start.

Stradinger can be heard on the same video telling everyone to make a hole so that the players could leave, but the video shows the dancers ignored the order. Witnesses statements from those standing amid the group indicate some acknowledged they heard the order, but others said they didn’t hear it or that police didn’t give them enough time to respond.

Some statements indicate the group was starting the dance so those that heard the order apparently chose to disregard it because they felt they weren’t doing anything wrong. Records show as the dance got under way, officers started to worry. They had never seen anything like it and had no prior warning the Haka, which involves some aggressive movements, was going to occur.

Socialism on a micro level

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”.. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A…. (substituting grades for dollars – something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on)

Remember, there IS a test coming up. The 2012 elections.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you’ll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Poverty

“The raw Census data show that the rate of poverty for single mothers is about five times as high as the rate of poverty for married households.

William Galston, the former advisor to President Clinton, has found that in order to avoid being poor you have to do three things:

(1) graduate from high school,
(2) wait until getting married to have children, and
(3) wait until age 20 to have children.

Only 8% of people who do those three things are poor. By contrast, a young person who breaks just one of these rules, has a 79 percent chance of ending up below the poverty line.”

Friends of Scouting

This article is about a guy who’s all bent out of shape about Friends of Scouting. I’ve collected Friends of Scouting for 15 years. I’ve heard all the comments. Two of the most common are:

  • Does any of this money go to the young women?
  • Does this money stay local?

I don’t know all the places that the money goes but I know that it’s not that much money. A member making $50,000 a year will pay $5,000 in tithing. On top of that they will likely pay several hundred more in fast offerings. Nevertheless, giving $50 to Friends of Scouting sends them over the edge.

Parents of seven told: Your children are too fat, so you will never see them again

By JANE SIMPSON

Last updated at 9:14 AM on 5th September 2011

Four obese children are on the brink of being permanently removed from their family by social workers after their parents failed to bring their weight under control.

In the first case of its kind, their mother and father now face what they call the ‘unbearable’ likelihood of never seeing them again.

Their three daughters, aged 11, seven and one, and five-year-old son, will either be ‘fostered without contact’ or adopted.

Either way, the family’s only hope of being reunited will be if the children attempt to track down their parents when they become adults.

The couple, who have been married for nearly 20 years and are not being named to protect their children’s identities, were given a ‘draconian’ ultimatum three years ago – as reported at the time by The Mail on Sunday.

Warned that the children must slim or be placed in care, the family spent two years living in a council-funded ‘Big Brother’ house in which they were constantly supervised and the food they ate monitored.

But despite subjecting them to intense scrutiny, social workers did not impose rules on what food the children should eat, and there was apparently little or no improvement.

News of the decision to remove them was broken to the couple, from Dundee, on Tuesday. Critics called it a disgraceful breach of human rights and a chilling example of the power of the State to meddle in family life.

In an emotional interview, the 42-year-old mother said: ‘We might not be the perfect parents, but we love our children with all our hearts. To face a future where we will never see them again is unbearable.

‘They picked on us because of our size to start with and they just haven’t let go, despite the fact we’ve done everything to lose weight and meet their demands. We’re going to fight this to the bitter end. It feels like even prisoners have more human rights than we do.’

The couple have not committed any crime and are not accused of deliberate cruelty or abuse. Their solicitor, Joe Myles, said there was ‘nothing sinister lurking in the background’ and accused social workers of failing to act in the family’s best interests.

‘Dundee social services department appear to have locked horns with this couple and won’t let go,’ he said, adding that the monitoring project caused more problems than it solved. ‘The parents were constantly being accused of bad parenting and made to live under a microscope.

‘We have tried very hard to do everything that was asked of us. My wife has cooked healthy foods like home-made spaghetti bolognese and mince and potatoes; but nothing we’ve done has ever been enough’

The couple have three older children who are all distraught and angry at the ruling.

Speaking through tears, their 15-year-old daughter said: ‘The social workers should hang their heads in shame. A person’s weight is their own business and only we can do anything about it, not them. My parents are good people and they love us all. The four little ones don’t know what is about to happen to them.’

Social workers became aware of the family in early 2008 after one of the sons accused his father of hitting him on the forehead. In truth, he had fallen and hit his head on a radiator – a fact he later admitted. However, the allegation opened the door to the obesity investigation.

While the couple admit experiencing what their lawyer calls ‘low grade’ parenting problems, which would have merited support, they were aghast when the issue of weight was seized on as a major concern.

A council report at the time said: ‘With the exception of [one of the names], the children are all overweight. Advice has been given regarding diet but there has been no improvement. Appointments with the dietician have been missed.’

At that point their then 12-year-old son weighed 16 stone; his 11-year-old sister weighed 12 stone; and his three-year-old sister weighed four stone. It is not known how much the four younger children weigh now.

The couple were ordered to send their children to dance and football lessons and were given a three-month deadline to bring down their weight. When that failed, the children were placed in foster homes but were allowed to visit their parents.

After the couple objected to this arrangement, the council agreed to move them into a two-bedroom flat in a supported unit run by the Dundee Families Project. They insisted on the couple living with only three of their children at a time.

At meal times, a social worker stood in the room taking notes. Doctors raised concerns that the children put on weight whenever they spent time with their parents, a claim they vehemently denied.

The couple and their children also had to adhere to a strict 11pm curfew. This involved ‘clocking’ in and out by filling in a sheet held by an employee who lived on site.

Although the children’s weight was the major concern, other allegations were included in a report. It showed that social workers were worried when the youngest child was found crawling unsupervised. The parents point out they were never far away and the flat had no stairs.

They also found her ‘attempting to put dangerous objects’ in her mouth. The family say this is natural in toddlers and she was never successful.

To have a social worker stand and watch you eat is intolerable. I want other families to know what can happen once social workers become involved. We will fight them to the end to get our beloved children back.

Social workers were further worried when she crawled through the contents of an upturned ashtray – an ‘unfortunate one-off incident’, claim the parents. All the concerns were dismissed by the family’s legal team as ‘low grade’ problems.

It is understood the father crumbled under the strain of being so closely monitored in January this year and moved into a council flat elsewhere in the city.

In the next few months, the mother breached the lunch and dinner meal observations, by her own admission, on ‘several’ occasions while taking the children to see their father.

She personally never broke the 11pm curfew but once allowed her seven-year-old daughter to remain at her father’s flat after she fell asleep. She did not want to disturb her and argued the child had ‘two parents, not one’ and was in ‘good hands’.

These breaches led staff to declare the trial a failure and the mother was asked to leave the unit in April this year. She moved in to her husband’s flat but the children were then handed over to foster parents.

Her solicitor said he planned to use independent experts to prove that the children want to live with their parents and have been damaged by the social workers’ intervention. He added: ‘We may ultimately look towards human rights laws.’

The father, aged 56, said: ‘We have tried very hard to do everything that was asked of us. My wife has cooked healthy foods like home-made spaghetti bolognese and mince and potatoes; we’ve cut out snacks and only ever allowed the kids sweets on a Saturday. But nothing we’ve done has ever been enough.

‘The pressure of living in the family unit would have broken anyone. We were being treated like children and cut off from the outside world. To have a social worker stand and watch you eat is intolerable. I want other families to know what can happen once social workers become involved. We will fight them to the end to get our beloved children back.’

It is estimated 26 million British adults will be obese by 2030, with obesity levels running at an all-time high among children. Official statistics show those who are overweight spend 50 per cent more time in hospital, placing extra strain on the NHS.

Tam Fry, honorary chairman of the Child Growth Foundation, said: ‘This is a disgrace. These parents have clearly attempted to comply. They have, if you like, played Dundee City Council’s game and yet they are still losing their children.’

Dundee City Council said: ‘The council always acts in the best interests of children, with their welfare and safety in mind.’
